Orange Bowl Bound

The Nittany Lions are headed to Miami to face the #22 Florida State Seminoles. It's the first trip for the Lions to a BCS bowl, and what a let down. Yeah, I know I should be thrilled with the results of the season, but this is not how it should end. While Rose Bowl dreams were crushed like both UCLA and Colorado, I at least thought that we'd play a quality 1 loss team in Va Tech. But, no...Beamer ball got deflated, and we (the Nittany nation) are left playing a 4 loss FSU team.

FSU is one of the best programs in college football. They finished in the Top 5 for 13 consecutive years. That's unreal. They have speed, size, talent, and good coaching, so it should be a wonderful game. BUT...like I read earlier today, it is a no-win situation for the Lions. Win, and, well, you should...you're the #3 team in the nation. Lose and the detractors come out of the woodwork.

Yes, I like the idea of watching PSU play post-New Year's. I just wish the game was more of a showcase on the field than the comparison of the coaches off the field.

Anyway, the men's basketball team has crashed back to Earth with back-to-back losses to better teams. Not sure that Texas A&M is a basketball school, per se, but at least the Nits were close in that one. .500 this year is not in the realm of possibility.

Kudos to the women's soccer team. They lost a tough one in the NCAA semifinals to eventual champ, Portland. The Lady Lions took the Pilots to 2 OTs before losing on PKs. Portland then stomped UCLA 4-0 in the finals. Great season, ladies.

The women's volleyball team is the last of the fall sports that can bring home a national championship. They're in the regional finals, and will take on Tennessee at Rec Hall. Good luck!

For the Glory...
